Dismiss Delta Heathrow Slots Appeal, European Court Urges

By Bryan Koenig (July 14, 2022, 7:55 p.m. EDT) – The Advocate General of the European Court of Justice recommended Thursday that the highest court in the European Union dismiss an appeal by American Airlines challenging a decision to lift the restrictions on how Delta uses flight slots at Heathrow airport taken over from American’s merger with US Airways.

The advisory opinion of Advocate General Athanasios Rantos is not binding. But the court will likely follow his recommendations as it considers a ruling by the General Court of the European Union finding that the European Commission did not misinterpret the bloc’s antitrust rules when it allowed Delta Air Lines to reallocate slots originally used for the long-haul London-Philadelphia. flights.
