‘Attack on the economic stability of European football’ – La Liga strike Kylian Mbappe deal with PSG
There has been a twist in the Kylian Mbappe saga, with La Liga releasing a statement announcing that they will file a complaint against Paris Saint-Germain over their new contract offer to the Frenchman.
Mbappe said: “I would like to announce that I have chosen to extend my contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and of course I am delighted. I am convinced that here I can continue to grow in a club that offers everything necessary to perform in I am also delighted to continue performing in France, the country where I was born, where I grew up and where I made a name for myself.

“I would like to thank the President, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, for his trust, his understanding and his patience. I would also like to thank all Paris Saint-Germain supporters, in France and around the world, for their support, especially in recent months. Together, side by side and ambitious, we will make magic in Paris.
However, to say the news didn’t go well in Spain would be an understatement.
La Liga president Javier Tebas previously said the contract was ‘an insult to football’ but their condemnation has now been taken to a new level.
The statement reads as follows:
“La Liga would like to state that this type of agreement undermines the economic stability of European football, putting hundreds of thousands of jobs and the integrity of sport at risk, not only in European competitions, but also in the national leagues.
“It is outrageous that a club like PSG, which last season recorded losses of more than 220 million euros after having accumulated losses of more than 700 million euros in previous seasons (while declaring income sponsorship at a questionable valuation), with a team costing around 650 million for this season, can conclude such an agreement, while the clubs which could afford the hiring of the player without seeing their wage bill compromised, find themselves without being able to do so. sign.
“La Liga will file a complaint against PSG before UEFA, the French administrative and tax authorities and the authorities of the European Union to continue to defend the economic ecosystem of European football and its sustainability.
“In the past, LaLiga complained to UEFA about PSG’s non-compliance with financial fair play. These complaints were successful and UEFA sanctioned the club, while the Court of Arbitration for Sport ( TAS), in a bizarre decision, overturned the sanctions.
“La Liga and many European football institutions hoped that the president of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, after entering the management bodies of European football such as the executive committee of UEFA and the presidency of the European Association des clubs (ECA), would refrain from these practices knowing that they cause serious damage, but the opposite has happened.PSG assumes an impossible investment, given that it has an unacceptable wage bill and significant financial losses in previous seasons. It violates current UEFA and French economic control rules.
“This behavior demonstrates once again that public clubs do not respect and do not want to respect the rules of a sector as important as football. These rules are essential to protect and maintain hundreds of thousands of jobs.
“This kind of behavior led by Al-Khelaifi, president of PSG, member of the executive committee of UEFA and president of ECA, endangers European football in the same way as the European Super League.”
